"And did those feet in ancient time" by William Blake

Came across this poem in the book V for Vendetta

  1. A very famous poem,put to music and nowadays the unofficial anthem of England. Written in 1804.
    Hear it sung on YouTube under "Jerusalem - The Hymn"

  2. Interesting. I had never heard of it until I read it in V. Guess it makes sense that Alan Moore (the writer of V) would reference it since he's located in England.

  3. As a Scot this is one work by Blake that just rubs me up the wrong way 'Englands pastures green' etc., Apart from that I love William Blake

  4. This is one of the great poems of the English language, apologies to Steppenwolf, I don't think Blake meant to dis Scottish people,he was protesting about industrialisation and the move away from God and Nature. All Blake's poems are worth reading.
